“Lights Out With David Spade” premiered Monday and with it, Comedy Central put the show’s very first opening monologue online for all to see. Watch it above.
In the clip, Spade catches up on the last few months of news, with jokes about “X-Men: Dark Phoenix,” the Planned Parenthood leadership contest, the teenager who won $3 million playing Fortnite, the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, and more.
Monday’s premiere featured guests Neal Brennan, Whitney Cummings and Erik Griffin. Additional guests for the show’s first week include Jen Kirkman, Theo Von, Amy Schumer, Nick Swardson, Steve Byrne, Kaley Cuoco, Jim Jefferies, Al Madrigal, Sarah Tiana and Spade’s former “SNL” castmate, Dana Carvey.
Executive produced by Spade, Alex Murray and Marc Gurvitz, the show is Comedy Central’s latest go at filling the late-night slot vacated by “The Colbert Report” when Stephen Colbert moved to CBS’s “The Late Show” back in 2014. Previous attempts included “The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore” and Jordan Klepper’s short-lived “The Opposition.”
Brad Wollack and Tom Brunelle of Free 90 Media serve as executive producers and showrunners. Frank Sebastiano is head writer and executive producer, with Chelsea Davison as supervising producer. Liz Plonka directs.
Jonas Larsen, Tara Schuster and Daniel Wolfberg are the executives in charge of production for Comedy Central.
