Lily Collins on ‘Shadowhunters’: ‘I’m So Glad the Stories Get to Live On’ (Exclusive Video)

“Doing it episodically and getting to do hours of footage as opposed to just films, maybe that works better,” the actress tells TheWrap

Lily Collins has no hard feelings about passing the “Mortal Instruments” torch to Freeform’s “Shadowhunters.”

The actress, who played Clary Fray in the original film based on Cassandra Clare’s YA fantasy novels, says she hasn’t watched the series adaptation now airing on Freeform, but she gives it her blessing.

“The stories speak for themselves. I love the books, I was so excited to play Clary. It didn’t pan out the way we wanted, but I think it works as a series,” Collins told TheWrap’s Stuart Brazell. “There are so many avenues to explore in the books. I think doing it episodically and getting to do hours of footage as opposed to just films, maybe that works better.”

The “Rules Don’t Apply” star and recent Golden Globe nominee also had praise for the cast who took over the reigns of Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara) and friends.

“The cast kind of all really work as the characters, and people seem to love them,” she said. “It didn’t work out for us, but I’m so glad the stories get to live on in some way.”

“Shadowhunters” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
