Lionsgate, Herrick Acquire Sundance Hit, ‘The Devil’s Double’

Tells story of Uday Hussein, son of the Iraqi dictator, and his body double

Lionsgate and Herrick Entertainment have acquired North American rights to "The Devil's Double."

The look at Uday Hussein, son of the Iraqi dictator, and his body double was one of the hot tickets at this year's Sundance Film Festival.

It has been described as “Three Kings meets Scarface meets Goodfellas.”

Directed by Lee Tamahori ("Die Another Day"), the film stars English actor Dominic Cooper ("An Education").

Reviewing the film at the festival, TheWrap's Sharon Waxman wrote: "The story gives us a moral center in Latif and a context for thinking about the consequences of our foreign policy – not just the 2003 invasion, but the choice not to topple Saddam back in 1990, and our support of that regime through the Iran-Iraq conflict.

Based on Latif Yahia’s autobiographical novel, the film was adapted for the screen by Michael Thomas ("The Hunger"), and produced by Corsan’s Paul Breuls and Catherine Vandeleene, with Corrino Media Group’s Michael John Feddun and Stacatto’s Emjay Rechsteiner. Harris Tulchin of Tulchin Entertainment and Arjen Terpstra are executive producers.

The deal was negotiated for Lionsgate by Constantine, Lionsgate Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions Eda Kowan, and Executive Vice President Business & Legal Affairs Wendy Jaffe.

Norton Herrick and Mickey Mayerson of Loeb & Loeb LLP represented Herrick.

The deal was negotiated by the Paradigm Motion Picture Finance Group and Creative Artists Agency, along with Harris Tulchin, who negotiated the deal on behalf of Paul Breuls.
