Netflix, Lionsgate Sign Exclusive U.K. and Ireland Streaming Pact

Deal includes such upcoming titles as “The Hunger Games” and “Expendables 2”

Lionsgate and Netflix have signed a deal granting the subscription service  exclusive streaming rights in the U.K. and Ireland to the studio's feature films, the two companies announced on Monday.

The deal has been rumored for some time and follows on the heels of a similar pact the beleagured rental giant signed last week with MGM for its streaming rights in the two countries.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but the company described the licensing pact as multi-year.

Lionsgate titles will be available for Netflix members in the two countries to watch instantly in the pay TV window on their televisions, tablets, game consoles, computers and mobile phones.

The service is expected to launch in early 2012.

Appearing exclusively on Netflix within a year of their theatrical release will be such films as “The Hunger Games,” the film version of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling teen novel; “The Expendables 2,” the sequel to Sylvester Stallone's men on a mission film; and the recently announced remake of “Dirty Dancing.”

Other films that will be available for streaming include “The Mechanic,” “Saw 3D," “Reservoir Dogs,” “Blair Witch Project,” “3:10 to Yuma,” and “Good Night and Good Luck.”
