London Police Arrest Suspected News Corp., Sony Hacker

“Topiary” is allegedly the spokesman for LulzSec, a hacking group that has promised to release a trove of documents on News Corp.’s phone hacking

The London Metropolitan Police has arrested a teenager it believes to be the spokesman for Lulz Security, the hacking group behind attacks on both Sony and News Corp., the Associated Press reports.

LulzSec has been threatening to release a trove of documents on phone hacking that would damage current and former News Corp. executives. It has already hacked the websites of The Sun and Sunday Times, linking to a fake article about News Corp. Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch being dead.

Scotland Yard said its cybercrime unit arrested a 19-year old who operates under the online name “Topiary” in Scotland’s Shetland Islands. Topiary has said he is one of six members of LulzSec.

The last time British authorities arrested a 19-year old it thought was prominent in the organization, LulzSec said he was not part of the group. There is no word yet from LulzSec.

The Metropolitan Police have also said it is investigating another teenager in connection with LulzSec.

LulzSec is affiliated with Anonymous, another hacking group that was recently hit by FBI arrests.
