Lupita Nyong’o is in final talks to lead “A Quiet Place: Day One,” a spinoff film of John Krasinski’s horror franchise, an individual with knowledge confirmed to TheWrap.

“Pig” filmmaker Michael Sarnoski will direct, based on an original idea by Krasinski. Paramount has already set a release date of March 8, 2024.

Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps. The previous two films in the franchise – “A Quiet Place” and “A Quiet Place Part II” – were both directed by Krasinski, who starred in the first chapter alongside Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmons and Noah Jupe. The franchise revolves around a family’s ongoing quest to survive in a post-apocalyptic world reigned by a monster with uber-sensitive hearing.

“A Quiet Place,” which debuted in 2018, generated over $188 million at the domestic box office and nearly $341 million worldwide. Its 2020 sequel became the first post-pandemic movie to reach $100 million at the box office, ultimately earning $160 million in the U.S. and a total of $297.4 million worldwide.

Academy Award-winner Nyong’o will next star in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” out in theaters Nov. 11.

“A Quiet Place: Day One” will be produced by Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller via Platinum Dunes alongside Krasinski via his Sunday Night banner with partner, Allyson Seeger, who serves as executive producer.

Deadline first reported the news.
