In a surprise performance at the 2018 Met Gala, Madonna sang “Like a Prayer” and “Hallelujah,” fitting this year’s theme of “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”
According to Rolling Stone, Madonna and a group of backup singers appeared on the Met stairs dressed in monk robes to sing her classic “Like a Prayer.” For the cover of Leonard Cohen’s 1984 song”Hallelujah,” she performed a lightly-choreographed dance to the piano.
She also performed a new tune as part of her set, singing, “It’s a beautiful plan, but I’m not concerned / It’s a beautiful game, that I never learned / You have taught me to shut my mouth, so I don’t get burned / Keep your beautiful lies, ’cause I’m not concerned.”
This year’s Met Gala was hosted by Vogue’s Anna Wintour and Rihanna.
Attendees included Katy Perry, Cardi B, Blake Lively, Kim Kardashian, 2 Chainz, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez, Frances McDormand, George and Amal Clooney, and many more.
