Margot Robbie has joined Christian Bale in David O. Russell’s new film, which is based on an original idea from the filmmaker.

The project is set up at New Regency, which will produce and distribute through their deal with 20th Century Studios. Matthew Budman will produce. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it was previously reported that it would follow the unlikely partnership between a doctor and a lawyer. Robbie had previously been eyed to join the project.

This is Russell’s first film since his 2015 movie “Joy,” which starred Jennifer Lawrence. His other credits include “American Hustle,” “Silver Linings Playbook” and “The Fighter.” Bale and Russell previously worked together in “American Hustle” and “The Fighter.”

Russell will write and direct the new feature.

Robbie was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in “Bombshell,” and most recently starred in and produced “Birds of Prey.” Her other recent credits include “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood,” which was up for 10 Oscar nominations, as well as “Dreamland” and “Mary Queen of Scots.”

Next up for the actress is “The Suicide Squad,” in which she will reprise her role as Harley Quinn, as well as “Barbie.” She is represented by Management 360, CAA, Aran Michael Management, and attorney Jeff Bernstein.
