Martin McDonagh, the director of “In Bruges” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” will direct his next film at Searchlight Pictures, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

The untitled film reunites him with both Disney’s Searchlight after the Oscar-nominated “Three Billboards” and also the UK-based production company Film4, with whom McDonagh has worked on all four of his films.

McDonagh’s new project is set on a remote Irish isle where two lifelong friends find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship, with alarming consequences for the both of them. No cast has yet been set for the film, but production is expected to begin later this year.

McDonagh will write, direct and produce, and Graham Broadbent and Peter Czernin will also produce via their banner Blueprint Pictures. Diarmuid McKeown, Ben Knight, Daniel Battsek, and Ollie Madden are executive producers.

“Three Billboards” received seven Oscar nominations in 2017, including Best Picture, and won the Best Actress prize for Frances McDormand. McDonagh’s latest play “Hangmen” will debut on Broadway on March 19 after first premiering in London in 2015.

The deal for the untitled film was brokered by Searchlight Pictures EVP business affairs Megan O’Brien, CAA Media Finance, McKeown for Blueprint Pictures and Film4 head of business affairs Cassandra Carias.

McDonagh is represented by CAA and Knight Hall Agency.

Variety first reported the news of the project.
