Marvel’s Maisel to Leave When Disney Sale Is Done

He will maintain executive producer credit on 3 upcoming Marvel films

David Maisel will step down as chairman of Marvel Studios when the company’s merger with the Walt Disney Co. is complete, he said Monday.

The merger is awaiting shareholder approval, which is expected to be given at a special meeting set for Dec. 31.

It is unlikely Maisel’s position will be filled after the merger. Rich Ross, who was named chairman of Walt Disney Studios, will add oversight for Marvel Studios to his duties.

A Marvel spokesperson confirmed that Maisel will continue as executive producer on three upcoming Marvel films: "Iron Man 2," "Captain America" and "Thor."

Maisel joined Marvel in 2004 as president of Marvel Studios and was named chairman in March 2007. He previously worked at Creative Artists Agency and Endeavor, as well as the Walt Disney Co.
