The Oscars are less than two weeks away, and Jimmy Kimmel can’t keep the thought of Matthew McConaughey winning Best Actor for his performance in “Dallas Buyers Club” off of his mind, and even made the actor start preparing his acceptance speech.
“How are you going to top that speech you made at the Golden Globes? It’s untoppable,” Kimmel said during an interview (above) on his ABC late-night show on Wednesday. “I feel like you wasted your A material on the Golden Globes, and now you have a lot to live up to. Do you have anything in mind?”
“First three words I ever said on film, which are ‘alright, alright, alright,’” McConaughey said.

McConaughey began his acceptance speech for his first Golden Globe last year with those three magical words that he first uttered in “Dazed and Confused.” If he wins his first Oscar on March 2, McConaughey also hopes to work in “you just gotta keep livin’,” another signature quote from his first movie role as Texas townie David Wooderson.
Before Kimmel endorsed the actor for an Academy Award, he professed his admiration for McConaughey’s HBO drama “True Detective,” in which he stars opposite Woody Harrelson. Although Harrelson is usually behind the wheel in the many car scenes shot on the road, McConaughey prefers to be behind the wheel when driving with his co-star off camera.
“Woody is senior detective. It’s his area, his county, his car, but that’s the only time it’s good for Woody to drive. And even then it’s not that safe for Woody to drive,” McConaughey said (below). “He’s a horrible driver.”

“He thinks stop signs are sort of anti-establishment,” McConaughey continued. “He thinks stop signs really should only be there if a car is coming. But other than that, don’t tell me what to do.”
“True Detective” airs on HBO on Sundays. Unfortunately for fans, like Kimmel, there are only three episodes left, and McConaughey assured there’s no chance he or Harrelson will be back for more.
“No more Rust Cohle, no more Marty Hary after eight episodes,” McConaughey said. “They’ll have another murder mystery to solve, but it will be all new detectives. Two of ’em, three of ’em, somewhere else.”
“I don’t like that,” Kimmel said. “I form a bond, and then it gets broken at the end. It’s almost like I’m wasting my time.”
