Netflix comedy hails from the makers of “Children’s Hospital”

The trailer for Netflix’s new series “Medical Police” is out, and it stars Erinn Hayes and Rob Huebel as a couple of “cool, crime-fighting doctors.” At least that’s what Jason Schwartzman calls them in the trailer, which also features lots of gun-slinging and awkward moments. From the makers of “Childrens Hospital,” “Medical Police” follows two American physicians stationed at a pediatric hospital in São Paulo, Brazil who unwittingly discover a civilization-threatening virus. They’re soon recruited as secret government agents and find themselves in a race against time to find a cure, all the while uncovering a dark conspiracy at the center of the outbreak, according to Netflix.

Other cast members include Sarayu Blue, Rob Corddry, Malin Akerman, Ken Marino and Lake Bell. Schwartzman guest stars along with and Fred Melamed, Craig Robinson, and others. Co-creators Krister Johnson, Rob Corddry, Jonathan Stern and David Wain serve as executive producers and writers, respectively.

“Childrens Hospital” ran for seven seasons on Adult Swim from 2010 to 2016, after initially starting as a web series on TheWB.com. The black comedy centered on the staff of a hospital named after Dr. Arthur Childrens. It was a send-up of medical dramas like “St. Elsewhere,” “House,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “General Hospital” and “ER.” It starred Corddry (who wore clown make-up), Bell, Marino, Huebel, Hayes, Akerman, Megan Mullally and Henry Winkler.

“Medical Police” premieres Jan. 10 on Netflix.
