‘Melrose Place’ Actress Charged in Fatal Car Crash

Police say she struck another vehicle from behind and fled

Amy Locane, who played the waitress Sandy on the original “Melrose Place,” was charged with vehicular homicide after an allegedly drunken hit-and-run spree that killed one motorist and badly injured another.

The actress, who now goes by her married name of Amy Locane-Bovenizer and also starred opposite Johnny Depp in John Waters' "Cry-Baby," has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide in Montgomery, New Jersey. Bail was set at $50,000 in court on Monday.

According to the Star-Ledger, the Garden State native smashed her 2007 Chevy Tahoe into another car at 9:15 p.m. Sunday night. Helene Seeman, a passenger in the other vehicle, was pronounced dead on the scene by law enforcement. Fred Seeman, the driver of the other vehicle, which was pulling out of a driveway on Cherry Hill Road in Montgomery, was flown to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was in critical condition.

Local law enforcement confirmed to TheWrap that earlier in the evening Locane-Bovenizer, who was noticeably intoxicated according to officers dispatched to the fatal accident, had rear-ended another car in Princeton, New Jersey, and fled that scene. Witnesses told police she was swerving and hitting mailboxes.

The actress, who lives in nearby Hopewell, was arrested and taken to University Medical Center in Princeton for blood tests. Locane-Bovenizer, who was alone in her vehicle in both accidents, admitted to authorities that she had been drinking several glasses of wine that night.

Also facing an third-degree assault by auto, Locane-Bovenizer could served up to 10 years in state prison if found guilty. Under New Jersey law, the mother of two would have to serve 85 percent of her sentence without possibility of parole.
