Meryl Streep is a guitar-goddess rockstar trying to make amends with her adult children in a new trailer released by Sony Pictures on Monday for “Ricki and the Flash.”
Streep stars as Ricki Rendazzo, a free spirit who left her husband and two kids behind for a guitar and the rock-and-roll lifestyle. Ricki has to return home when her daughter Julie (played by Streep’s real-life daughter Mamie Gummer) faces a divorce.
Kevin Kline stars as her ex-husband and Sebastian Stan stars as her estranged son. Rick Springfield also stars as part of Ricki’s backing band.
Directed by Jonathan Demme and written by Diablo Cody, “Ricki and the Flash” features Streep’s singing skills. The actress previously showcased her musical talents for roles in “Mamma Mia” and “Into the Woods.”
The movie opens in theaters on August 7.
