Michael Bay's "The Last Ship" has been given the go-ahead to set sail.
TNT has given a 10-episode order to the drama, which Bay is executive producing.

Based on William Brinkley's 1988 post-apocalyptic novel of the same title, "The Last Ship" kicks off with a global catastrophe that nearly destroys the world's population. Because of its positioning, the Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan James avoids falling victim to the devastating tragedy. However, the crew and its captain must now confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they may be among the few remaining survivors.
Former "Grey's Anatomy" actor Eric Dane will star in "The Last Ship."
The series comes to TNT from Bay's Platinum Dunes company. Platinum Dunes' Brad Fuller and Andrew Form will executive produce with Bay.

"Without a Trace" alum Hank Steinberg serves as showrunner and is also executive producing, as is Steven Kane ("The Closer"), who wrote the series pilot with Steinberg.
Jonathan Mostow ("U-571") directed the pilot.
The series, which is expected to launch next year, also stars Rhona Mitra ("Strike Back"), Adam Baldwin ("Firefly") and Tracy Middendorf ("Boardwalk Empire," "Mission: Impossible III."
