‘Mike & Molly’ Showrunner Mark Roberts Steps Down

Co-executive producer Al Higgins has been promoted and will run the CBS comedy's upcoming fourth season

"Mike & Molly" creator Mark Roberts has stepped down as showrunner from the CBS comedy, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.

Roberts has been with the comedy for its entire three-season run. He's leaving the show to focus on other projects.

Co-executive producer Al Higgins has been promoted to executive producer and showrunner for the upcoming fourth season. His previous credits include "Malcolm in the Middle" and "Newsradio."

The series' ratings saw a decline in viewers this past season. It's penultimate episode of the season got a 2.4 rating/6 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and 8.3 million total viewers (vs. last season's 3.1/8 and 10.1 million viewers).

Star Melissa McCarthy won an Emmy for the role of Molly in 2011. It also stars Billy Gardell, Reno Wilson and Katy Mixon. It airs its season finale on Monday.

Deadline first reported the showrunner moves.
