Millennium Sets Start Date, New Location for Romantic Comedy ‘My Owner’s Wedding’ (Exclusive)

Andy Fickman’s movie is moving from New York to Mexico City, where production will start in February

Millennium Films has set a start date of February 2016 for its romantic comedy “My Owner’s Wedding” and is relocating principal photography from New York to Mexico City, TheWrap has learned.

The film will be directed by Andy Fickman, who’s best known for such box office hits as “Parental Guidance,” “Race to Witch Mountain” and “The Game Plan,” all of which grossed over $100 million worldwide.

“My Owner’s Wedding” follows two eligible young women, the guy they both want and his dog, who will go to great lengths to make sure his owner ends up with the right girl.

“Much as we love New York, it’s been the scene of countless romantic comedies, which makes finding a distinctive angle for this story all the more difficult,” said Mark Gill, president of Millennium. “In our increasingly global society, it frankly makes more sense to set our story — still rooted in the English language — in Mexico City, a global capital that is glamorous, exciting, highly cinematic and offers a much fresher setting for our story.”

The original screenplay was written by Robert Cary (“Anything But Love”) and Jonathan Tolins, whose current play “Buyer and Cellar” enjoyed a successful run off-Broadway.

“My Owner’s Wedding” is being produced by Cary, Tolins and Gill, with Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, John Thompson, Christine Otal and Alan Gasmer serving as executive producers.

Millennium Films develops, finances, produces and distributes approximately 6-8 films per year and is best known for “The Expendables” series and “Olympus Has Fallen.” A sequel, “London Has Fallen,” is due next year.
