Miss Puerto Rico Suspended From Miss America for Anti-Muslim Tirade

“All what Muslims have done is provided oil & terrorize this country and many others,” Destiny Velez tweets

Miss Puerto Rico was suspended from the Miss America pageant on Sunday after going on a Twitter tirade against Muslims and filmmaker Michael Moore.

In a since-deleted series of tweets, Destiny Velez, went after Moore’s #WeAreAllMuslim campaign and claimed Muslims deserve the discrimination they’re receiving from the likes of Donald Trump.

After widespread criticism, Velez apologized.

“I apologize to the people I have offended with my words. I am first and foremost an #UpStander and as such I stand up against bullying. The last thing I wanted to do was to bully anyone. Again,…” she tweeted.

The Miss Puerto Rico organization condemned her comments.

“The comments are antithetical to the morals, ethics, and principles of the Organization, and we have suspended Ms. Velez indefinitely for her offensive and inappropriate actions….” the organization tweeted.

Velez has deleted her social media accounts in the wake of the uproar against her.
