Mitt Romney finally broke down and appeared on "Late Show With David Letterman" on Tuesday night. Kinda. Sorta. Maybe if you squint really hard.

As dedicated followers of one-sided political-media feuds will recall, Republican presidential candidate Romney rebuffed David Letterman's requests to come back on his late-night show, claiming that Letterman "hates" me. (Letterman has steadfastly denied harboring any ill feelings toward Romney.)

So Letterman gave his audience an idea of what a Romney interview might be like on Tuesday night, with the help of "School of Rock" star Jack Black.

Sporting a button-down shirt, mom jeans and a semi-robotic vocal cadence, Black channeled Romney to make peace with Letterman — and to offer his thoughts on how to turn America around.

"Cut taxes, reduce burdensome regulation and buy 'Bernie,' the unforgettable movie about a murder in a small Texas town now on DVD, starring Shirley MacLaine, Matthew McConaughey and national treasure Jack Black," Black intoned, while holding up a DVD of "Bernie."
