‘Modern Family’ Gets Season’s Biggest DVR Boost

ABC comedy increases its 18-49 rating by 1.9 votes once time-shifting is factored in

"Modern Family" has found a modern way of connecting with audiences.

ABC announced on Monday that the Ed O'Neill/Sofia Vergara comedy has earned the season's highest reported ratings build for any TV series in terms of DVR playback in the 18-49 demo, with the show's demo numbers increasing by ratings points for the week of Feb. 14.

Overall, the series gained an additional 3.76 million viewers thanks to the DVR numbers — a high for the week, and the second-highest overall viewer gain for any telecast this season.

ABC also did well with "Grey's Anatomy" on the DVR front. The hospital drama was the number two DVR playback gainer in the 18-49 demo for the week, receiving a 1.5 rating-point boost. Overall, "Grey's" picked up 2.85 million viewers.
