‘Moonlight’ Star Alex O’Loughlin Flying to ‘Hawaii’

Pilot Watch 2010: Cult fave will star in remake of “Hawaii Five-O.” Plus, why “Numbers'” number may be up

"Moonlight" star Alex O’Loughlin is set to play Det. Steve McGarrett in CBS’ planned remake of "Hawaii Five-O."

Long rumored to be in the running for the role, producer CBS Television Studios officially "booked ‘im" Wednesday night, the network confirmed. He’ll join the previously cast Daniel Dae Kim in the project, which is one of the hottest pilots at CBS right now.

"Transformers" writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, along with "CSI: NY’s" Peter Lenkov, are behind the remake. This will be O’Loughlin’s third stab at a series for CBS: He also starred in this season’s failed drama "Three Rivers."

Meanwhile, the Eye network has also landed Freddy Rodriguez ("Six Feet Under") for the lead role in "Chaos," its CIA-themed pilot from director Brett Ratner.

In other casting news, Daily Variety and the Hollywood Reporter are both reporting that "Numbers" star David Krumholz has landed the lead in Ron Howard’s IRS-themed comedy for Fox. He’s in second position in the project, which means that if CBS decides to renew "Numbers," Howard will have to find a new leading man.

But odds are long CBS will renew the show or that Krumholz would take the part if he thought it was likely he’d be returning to "Numbers."
