Morgan Freeman will soon join Johnny Depp in “Transcendence,” the directorial debut of Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister, Alcon Entertainment announced on Thursday. Freeman is in "final negotiations" to join the film's cast, which means he'll be on set barring some last-minute catastrophe.

Principal photography for the film, which Alcon is financing and producing, will begin next month in Los Angeles. Freeman is currently on screens nationwide in "Olympus Has Fallen" and can next be seen in "Oblivion."

On "Transcendce," he joins a cast that also includes Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall and Kate Mara. The actor appeared in all three of Christopher Nolan's Batman films, which Pfister worked on as a cinematographer.

Nolan is executive producing "Transcendence" with his wife Emma Thomas and Aaron Ryder while Straight Up Films’ Marisa Polvino, Annie Marter and Kate Cohen are producing.

Though script details have been kept a secret, it involves a scientist (Depp) whose brain is uploaded to a supercomputer.

Warner Bros. will release the film April 25, 2014 in the United States.
