“Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski have been publicly feuding with Donald Trump in recent days. With the pair now on vacation, guest Katty Kay opted not to mock the president’s recent actions, but take the media to task for giving it so much attention.
Kay, a BBC World News America host, discussed Trump’s tweet that superimposed a CNN logo over WWE footage to signify him attacking the cable news network. Other nations are paying attention, she warned.
“If you take just in isolation that whatever 15 seconds, it’s hard not to see somebody punching somebody in the face,” Kay said. “This is getting a huge amount of coverage in other countries and looks totally crazy. It really looks like America has gone off the reservation in some ways.”
She continued: “I don’t mean the president. I mean the whole coverage of it, the fact that this is all that anybody is talking about at a time when there are huge issues going on around the world. This is pre-occupying the country.”
Trump continued his run of bizarre Twitter behavior on Sunday, tweeting a right-wing video meme that imagined himself body-slamming and pummeling a man with a CNN logo for a head.
The footage — a grainy mirror image of a scene from a 2007 WrestleMania stunt involving Trump and WWE CEO Vince McMahon — shows a pink-tie-wearing Trump jumping a suited figure on the side of a wrestling ring, tossing him to the ground and then punching him in the face before walking away in triumph.
Media spent the majority of Sunday discussing the tweet.
