MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” responded to a lengthy prepared statement by Jared Kushner in real-time on Monday, with panelist Kasie Hunt calling it the “chaos and sloppiness defense.”
“I had no improper contacts. I did not collude, nor know of anyone else in the campaign who colluded, with any foreign government,” Kushner said in a prepared statement that was obtained by the New York Times.
“This just all came out… we’re doing our best to get through it, but clearly Jared Kushner is looking to clear his name and move on,” co-host Mika Brzezinski said.
MSNBC’s Hunt said, “I’m just trying to wrap my head around this entire statement.”
Hunt continued: “I would say this is essentially the chaos and sloppiness defense. Essentially Jared Kushner is explaining away point by point, all of the concerning things and offering his version of events that essentially make things that may seem to be problematic, simply the result of someone overlooking something.”
The president’s son-in-law will meet with members of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Monday for a closed meeting to discuss his Russia contacts. Kushner’s morning statement is presumed to be his opening remarks for the meeting that will not be taken under oath.
