MovieTickets.Com Signs Pact With Carmike Cinemas (Updated)

Deal adds more than 2,000 screens

Carmike Cinemas will allow MovieTickets.com to sell tickets to its more than 2,000 screens, the theater chain said Tuesday.

The move is a boon to MovieTickets.com, which has struggled to keep pace as Fandango has locked up major exhibitors like AMC Theatres and Regal Theatres in recent years to emerge as the top dog in the world of online ticketing.

The deal does not take the place of an existing pact Carmike has with Fandango. Both online ticketers will sell tickets for the chain.

The pact with Carmike adds 2,200 screens to MovieTickets.com's list of domestic theaters. The company said that the deal with Carmike marks the largest domestic expansion of its screen count since the company was founded in 2000.

Carmike extended its pact with Fandango in April 2012 in a multi-year partnership.

The Columbus, Ga.-based theater chain primarily operates throughout smaller American towns, with locations in more than 30 states. It is among the top five theater circuits in the country, according to the National Association of Theatre Owners.

For the record: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that MovieTickets.com was replacing Fandango as Carmike's ticket seller. Both companies will represent the chain.
