MPAA Taps Henry Hoberman Global General Counsel

Former RHI suit will oversee the lobby group’s legal affairs and intellectual property protection

The Motion Picture Association of America on Wednesday announced that former RHI executive Henry Hoberman has been appointed to oversee global legal affairs and intellectual property protection.

Since 2008, Hoberman has served as the executive VP, general counsel and secretary of RHI Entertainment, Inc.

“Henry’s experience within the film and television industry and his breadth of knowledge of the many serious challenges facing the entertainment community will be a tremendous resource to the MPAA," said MPAA chairman Christopher Dodd. "He joins a strong senior leadership team and dedicated worldwide staff who have set their sights on delivering a clear and simple message:  when it comes to growing the economy, creating jobs and promoting trade and American innovation, movies matter."

MPAA CHAIRMAN AND CEO SENATOR CHRIS DODD TAPS HENRY HOBERMAN TO OVERSEE GLOBAL LEGAL AFFAIRS AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PROTECTION FOR THE MPAA

WASHINGTON—Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc. (MPAA), today named Henry Hoberman, a veteran entertainment industry attorney, as the association’s new Senior Executive Vice President and Global General Counsel.  In that position, Hoberman will oversee all legal, content enforcement and rights management programs within the MPAA, both domestically and abroad. He will assume his new position in early November.

Hoberman comes to the MPAA with nearly 25 years of experience in the media and entertainment industry.  Since 2008, he has been the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of RHI Entertainment, Inc., responsible for all worldwide business affairs, legal affairs and human resources.  RHI is a leading producer and distributor of original made-for-television movies and miniseries, with a library of over 1000 films.  For the previous decade, he held various positions of leadership at ABC and The Walt Disney Company, including Senior Vice President of ABC, Inc., responsible for overseeing litigation and employment practices for all business units of ABC and the ABC Television Network. Before joining ABC and Disney, Hoberman was an Equity Partner in the Media and Communications Group at Baker & Hostetler, LLP and an Assistant United States Attorney in Washington, DC.  He has also served as Chairman of the Board and a Director of the Media Law Resource Center, a non-profit, New York-based industry group dedicated to promoting and protecting freedom of the press. Hoberman received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.
