A multi-camera comedy starring comedian Patricia “Ms. Pat” Williams, aptly titled “The Ms. Pat Show,” has received a pilot order at Hulu, an individual with knowledge of the project tells TheWrap.

Additionally, the sitcom, which is produced by Lee Daniels and Brian Grazer, has cast “City on a Hill’s” J. Bernard Calloway as its male lead, the insider told TheWrap.

Based on Ms. Pat’s standup comedy and memoir, “The Ms. Pat Show” tells the story of a former convicted felon turned suburban mom (Ms. Pat), whose hustle and resilient spirit were forged on the streets of Atlanta. To much reserve, she now finds herself in conservative middle America alongside her penny-pinching husband (Calloway), a struggle of a sister, and two distinct sets of kids raised under very different circumstances.

The project had previously received a put pilot commitment at Fox during the 2016-17 broadcast pilot season.

Jordan E. Cooper (“Star”) — who was not involved with the Fox iteration — will write the pilot, with Debbie Allen set to direct. Ms. Pat will executive produce the pilot along with Cooper, Daniels, Grazer, Marc Velez, Pam Williams, Francie Calfo and Samie Kim Falvey. Jon Radler and Jahil Fisher are producers.

“The Ms. Pat Show” hails from Grazer’s Imagine Television, Lee Daniels Entertainment and Fox 21 TV Studios.

Deadline first reported the news of Hulu picking up “The Ms. Pat Show” pilot.
