MTV to Launch Its Own Singing Competition Show — Yes, It’s Called ‘Copycat’

Competitors will strive to sound like their favorite artists

Not getting enough singing-competition action from “American Idol,” “The Voice” and “The X Factor”? MTV has you covered,

The network has given the green light to its own singing competition show, dubbed “Copycat,” in which singing hopefuls vie to sound more like someone else than any of their rivals.

On “Copycat,” singers will battle it out on stage, doing their best to sound like their favorite recording artists, with the studio audience voting on each performance to determine who will go home empty-handed and who will win the grand prize and snatch the title of  Ultimate Copycat.

The half-hour series is being produced by Next Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Television. Mike Fleiss and Brendon Carter are executive producing, with Matt Laesch co-executive producing.

MTV executives Lauren Dolgen, Kristina Edwards and Jennifer Russakoff are also working on the show.
