MTV is committed to “Finding Carter.” The youth-skewing network has ordered the drama pilot to series.

Executive produced by Terri Minsky and based on a script by “Bones” story editor Emily Silver, “Finding Carter” will shoot 12 episodes.

The coming of age drama follows Carter (Kathryn Prescott), a teen who discovers that her mother, Lori (Milena Govich) actually kidnapped her as a toddler. Carter must then return to the family who thought they had lost her, which includes brand new parents, a twin sister, high school and boys. She also hasn’t given up on Lori, the only mother she knew.

MTV describes the series as “an unconventional family drama about a girl who is quickly realizing that sometimes the people closest to you are the ones who have the most to hide.”

The series also stars Cynthia Watros, Alexis Denisof, Anna Jacoby-Heron and Zac Pullam. Meredith Baxter and Robert Pine also recur on the series.

MTV has had an unsteady time of trying to build its scripted slate. It has found hits with “Awkward” and “Teen Wolf,” but floundered with its reboot of “Underemployed,” the UK’s “Skins,” “The Hard Times of RJ Berger” and “The Inbetweeners.”

On April 22, scripted comedy “Faking It,” debuts. The comedy revolves around two best friends who will do almost anything to fit in and be popular in high school, including pretending to be gay.
