MTV’s ‘Real World’ Exes Twist Earns Biggest Audience in 3 Seasons

The long-running reality series experiences a resurgence with new format

MTV got what it wanted when the network decided to revamp its long-running “Real World” franchise in its 29th season.

Wednesday’s big moment of “Real World: Ex-Plosion” in which the roommates former flames moved into the house attracted 1.5 million viewers — a 10 percent increase over the previous week.

At the 10 p.m. timeslot, the reality series ranked No. 1 among the Women ages 12-34 demographic and No. 2 with the network’s key demo, viewers ages 12-34.

MTV has seen the show’s audience growing an average 15 percent each week since its premiere on Jan. 8. Currently, “Real World: Ex-Plosion is pacing to be the highest rated “Real World” since “Real World: San Diego,” which aired in 2011.

Airing next Wednesday at 10/9c, love triangles form on the new episode for one of the newly coupled roomies and the guy’s ex-girlfriend. And one cast member discovers she’s pregnant.
