‘Mulan’ Teaser Shows Live-Action Heroine as Sword-Wielding, Arrow-Shooting Warrior (Video)

Liu Yifei draws her sword in Disney’s next remake

With “The Lion King” two weeks away from release, Disney released the teaser for their next remake, “Mulan,” during halftime of the FIFA Women’s World Cup on Sunday.

The new teaser features Chinese-American actress Liu Yifei as Hua Mulan, showing her both being prepared to meet a potential suitor and taking to the battlefield in her ailing father’s place. Directed by “Whale Rider” filmmaker Niki Caro, the live-action remake teases a style inspired by China’s Wuxia martial arts films like “Shadow” and “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.”

The film also stars Donnie Yen as Mulan’s commander and Jet Li as the Emperor. Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An and Gong Li also star.

Along with remakes for “The Lion King” and “Mulan,” Disney is also planning a remake of “The Little Mermaid,” which just cast Halle Bailey as Ariel.

“Mulan” hits theaters March 27, 2020. Watch the trailer in the clip above.
