Nat Geo Wild Renews ‘Fish Bowl,’ ‘Unlikely Animal Friends’; Greenlights 20-Hour Beaver-Fest (Exclusive)

If you find yourself sick of football on Super Bowl Sunday, Goldie the goldfish and Charlie the clownfish have you covered

Nat Geo Wild is about to give you more beaver than you can shake a stick at.

The network has given the go-ahead to a 20-hour marathon of a new special, “American Beaver,” which will gnaw into viewers’ brains Feb. 2.

Billed as “a tale of power, domination and triumph over adversity,” the show follows a family of beavers for an entire year, capturing the intimate moments of the colony and capturing their effect on the environment. The channel will air the special for 20 hours straight, from 7 a.m. on Feb. 2 to 3 a.m. on Feb. 3.

Nat Geo Wild has also renewed “Fish Bowl,” which first bubbled up last year as Nat Geo Wild’s programming alternative to the Super Bowl. Like the inaugural airing of “Fish Bowl,” this year’s edition will center around Goldie the goldfish, with a few twists.

For one, Goldie will now have a companion in the form of a clownfish named Charlie, who’ll accompany Goldie to the farm of Dr. Pol, of Nat Geo Wild’s “The Incredible Dr. Pol.” Once arrived at the farm, the gill-bearing pals will bask in the tranquil splendor of their surroundings.

“Inside a quiet barn they watch a cow being milked and enjoy a beautiful view of a pasture outside,” Nat Geo Wild said of “Fish Bowl II.” “The moment is mostly lost on the fish, but Goldie has to admit that the fresh air in her gills feels nice.”

Those looking for a break from the football action can tune into “Fish Bowl II” at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1. It’ll be preceded by a marathon of “The Incredible Dr. Pol” starting at 7 a.m.

Also returning to the airwaves of Nat Geo Wild in February: “Unlikely Animal Friends,” which comes back with a six-episode season starting Feb. 27 at 10 p.m. Once again, the series will deliver heartwarming stories of unexpected pairings. Couplings that will be featured this time out include a disabled Chihuahua and a rescued silkie chicken; a man and his surfing pig; a blind woman and her seeing-eye horse; and a dachshund and a handicapped cat.
