NBC News Crew in Japan Scanned for Radiation; Traces Found on Lester Holt

“Today” show correspondent, colleagues were in Sendai for 36 hours; “minute levels” found on shoes

NBC News hired a radiation expert to scan its crew in Japan — including Lester Holt — when they arrived in Tokyo after spending 36 hours in Sendai, where the Fukushima nuclear power plant is located.

Holt told Matt Lauer that traces of radiation were found on the crew's shoes.

"The Geiger counter went off, even after I had washed them," Holt said, adding that the "very minute levels" of radiation were found.

Nonetheless scary.
