NBC News Hires ITV’s Julian March as SVP Editorial and Innovation

He’ll join former ITV colleague Deborah Turness at the network

NBC News president Deborah Turness looked back to her old employer to find her new senior vice president of editorial and innovation: ITV’s Julian March will join NBC in early 2014.

March is now director of online at Britain’s ITV, where he worked under Turness until she began at NBC News in August.

“Julian is the perfect person for this exciting new strategic and editorial role,” Turness said in a memo to staff. “He is not only a talented, extremely capable and dynamic journalist with decades of television news experience, he’s also a proven digital leader and innovator with a very unique understanding of the intersection of broadcast news and digital.”

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me,” said March. “News is the nexus of storytelling and technology — and nowhere else is innovation more important right now.”

Though the title is different, March’s role will closely resemble that of Vivian Schiller, the outgoing chief digital officer who will soon be joining Twitter as its head of news.
