NBC has ordered nine additional scripts of “Superstore,” TheWrap has learned exclusively.

The series, which stars America Ferrera and Ben Feldman as employees in a big-box retailer, was renewed for a second season in February, along with “Blindspot” and “Shades of Blue,” and it was given the post-Olympics slot for a special second-season preview episode themed to the Games.

The second season of “Superstore” currently consists of 13 episodes, so the additional script order is considered a sign of confidence; the pickup of the back-nine episodes would bring the season to a full 22.

Series creator Justin Spitzer previously told TheWrap that in the show’s second season, which premieres Thursday, he “might want to start bringing in a little more of a sense of the corporation of Cloud 9.”

“Superstore” was a modest ratings success for the network last fall, averaging a 2.1 rating among adults 18-49 and 6.6 million viewers in live-plus-seven viewing, according to Nielsen.

NBC has a lot riding on the show heading into the new season — “Superstore” was one of just two comedies renewed for another season by the network, alongside “The Carmichael Show.”

The post-Olympics episode got a 3.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.7 million viewers.

“Superstore” airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
