NBCSN Scores Record Viewership for May

Stanley Cup playoffs and Spanish Grand Prix race help boost sports network to a personal best

NBCSN brought its A game in May, delivering its most-watched primetime month in the network’s history.

For the period ranging from April 28 to May 25, NBCSN averaged 1.1 million primetime viewers. In the 18-49 demographic most important to advertisers, the network also logged a primetime monthly record, averaging 556,000 viewers in the demo.

Much of the record viewership was due to the second and third rounds of the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs, along with the conclusion of the Premier League season and a nail-biter of a Formula One race in the Spanish Grand Prix. Six games of the Stanley Cup playoffs airing in May drew more than 1.75 million viewers, a monthly high for the playoffs. Game 7 on May 14 between the Canadiens and the Bruins, in particular, averaged 2.276 million viewers.

The Spanish Grand Prix race on May 11, meanwhile, drew 455,000 viewers — double that of the equivalent race for the previous year.
