UPDATE: Nelly was released with no charges filed, police said Sunday. Read more details here.
Rapper Nelly was arrested outside Seattle on Saturday morning on second degree rape charges after a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her on his tour bus, his attorney confirmed.
According to Fox Seattle affiliate Q13, the accuser claims she met Nelly — whose birth name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. — after a show in Seattle and invited her on his tour bus.
The assault was reported at 3:45 a.m., with the rapper being arrested at 7 a.m. Saturday morning in Auburn, Washington, according to Q13. Reps for the Auburn police have not yet responded to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Nelly was scheduled to perform Saturday night in the nearby town of Ridgefield as part of his tour with Florida-Georgia Line.
Nelly was checked into a SCORE jail in Des Moines Saturday morning, though Q13 reported that he is currently not listed on the jail roster. It is unclear whether he was released or transferred.
In a statement to TheWrap, Nelly’s attorney, Scott Rosenblum, denied the charges.
“Nelly is the victim of a completely fabricated allegation,” the statement read. “Our initial investigation clearly establishes this allegation is devoid of credibility and is motivated by greed and vindictiveness. I am confident, once this scurrilous accusation is thoroughly investigated there will be no charges. Nelly is prepared to address and pursue all legal avenues to redress any damage caused by this clearly false allegation.”
