Netflix has released the first official trailer for Selena Gomez’s series “13 Reasons Why,” based on the best-selling YA book of the same name by Jay Asher. The show, like the novel, follows a young teenager’s quest to find out why his classmate decided to end her life.
“Settle in, because I’m about to tell you the story of my life. More specifically, why my life ended. And if you are listening to this tape, you are one of the reasons why,” says a voiceover in the trailer.
Starring Katherine Langford, Dylan Minette, Christian Navarro and Kate Walsh, the show centers around the reverberations in a community after a high school student (Langford) commits suicide.
She leaves a box of cassette tapes to one of her classmates with instructions to pass a tape along to 12 other people. On each tape, she explains how each person contributed to her death.
Brian Yorkey created the show, which Gomez co-produced with her mother Mandy Teefy. Paramount TV and Anonymous Content are producing.
