Netflix Signs Duplass Brothers to Four-Picture Deal

Each movie will see a theatrical release before becoming available to streaming subscribers

In a further push into original films, streaming giant Netflix has signed Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass to a four-picture deal, a company representative told TheWrap.

Under the deal, Netflix will finance four of the brothers/producing partners’ movies. Each movie will first be released theatrically before becoming available to Netflix subscribers.

It’s the second multi-project production deal Netflix has made with filmmakers. In October, Ted Sarandos’ company signed Adam Sandler to a four-picture deal.

Sandler’s deal, however, makes his movies available exclusively to members of the streaming service in the 50 countries in which it operates. The streaming medium will also partner with The Weinstein Company on a day-and-date release for the “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” sequel, subtitled “The Green Legend.”

The Duplass brothers created, wrote and directed HBO’s new sitcom “Togetherness,” which is currently airing its first season. Mark Duplass will next be seen in Lionsgate thriller “The Lazarus Effect.”
