The newest “Dark Tower” trailer gives us what we came here for.
While the first trailer focused more on Jake (Tom Taylor)’s encounter with an alternate reality where Roland Deschain (Idris Elba) protects something called the Dark Tower, this trailer puts the spotlight on the main conflict between Roland, the last Gunslinger, and the Man in Black, played by Matthew McConaughey.
It’s a simple battle between good and evil. The Man in Black wants to destroy the tower, which holds the universe together and the Gunslinger is the only one who can stop him. While the film uses Jake as an entry point to this new world, this new trailer highlights the main event: watching Elba, dressed in Old West-style gear, facing off against McConaughey in a suit.
At one point, the Man in Black goads Roland into an altercation. In another, the villain conjures fire from his hands while facing off against his foe.
“The tower will fall,” the Man in Black says to Roland. “Get used to the carnage.”
This trailer is light on plot, so we’ll fill you in. The Gunslinger, a roaming knight of the Old West resides in a parallel dimension known as Mid-World. He crosses paths with Jake, an 11-year-old New Yorker with wanderlust who accidentally crosses over into Mid-World. Together, the two go on a quest to save Mid-World from destruction, hoping to reach the titular Dark Tower and stop the Man in Black from controlling infinite worlds.
