20th Century Fox Television has renewed its Zooey Deschanel-starring comedy “New Girl” for its seventh and final season, the studio announced Sunday.

The ensemble comedy centers on a free-spirited young woman (Deschanel), her three male roommates — Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Winston (Lamorne Morris) — and her female best friend Cece (Hannah Simone), as they navigate modern relationships and form a charmingly dysfunctional family.

Last season, “New Girl” averaged a 0.9 rating and 2 million viewers — comparable to other Fox comedies like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “The Last Man on Earth” that already got picked up. The rating grew to 1.6 after a week of on-demand viewing.

Elizabeth Meriwether, Brett Baer, Dave Finkel, Jake Kasdan, Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope and Erin O’Malley executive produce.

Series already renewed by the network include “The Exorcist,” Lee Daniels’ “Empire” and “Star,” “Gotham,” “Lethal Weapon,” “Lucifer” and comedies “Last Man on Earth” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “The Mick.”

The network is also jumping back into live musicals with an adaptation of “A Christmas Story” and “Rent,” which will be Fox’s next live musical.

Fox has ordered the medical drama “The Resident,” supernatural comedy “Ghosted” and workplace sitcom “LA to Vegas.”

Cancellations include freshman dramas “Pitch” and “APB” and comedies “Son of Zorn” and “Making History.” “Sleepy Hollow” was also canceled after four seasons, and “Rosewood” got dropped after two.
