New Line Veterans Launch Amber Entertainment

Company is partnering with Tesco to make direct-to-DVD movies from best selling authors

A trio of New Line Cinemas veterans have joined to launch a new entertainment company Amber Entertainment, which will create direct to DVD movies. The company will team up with the retailer, Tesco to make feature films based on works by best-selling authors such as Philip Pullman, Judy Blume, Dick and Felix Francis, and Jackie Collins, it was announced Thursday.

Amber will be based in London and Los Angeles and is the brainchild of New Line executives Ileen Maisel, Mark Ordesky and Jane Fleming, as well as documentary and television producer Lawrence Elman.

"We created Amber Entertainment to celebrate and expand the impact of authors and their stories across the ever-growing new media landscape,”Ileen Maisel, founding Amber Entertainment partner, said in a statement. “This partnership with Rob Salter and the fantastic team at Tesco is exactly the sort of new paradigm for delivering content to audiences that is the future of the entertainment industry."

The first film of the new venture "Paris Connections" is currently in pre-production in France.

The company’s films will be released exclusively Tesco stores.
