If you use the New York Post’s smartphone app, the newspaper would like to inform you that the strange alert notifications you may have seen on your phone on April Fools’ Day yesterday was not a joke, but a hack.
The Post sent out an apology on Saturday night for a series of strange messages sent through the app’s notification system, which started with the message “Heil President Donald Trump!” and also contained lyrics from the song “Come As You Are” by Nirvana.
“Hear me now, for I speak as an angel in the words of God,” one alert read. “Open your heart to those you do not understand and listen to all those you fear and look down upon.”

“Our push alert notification system was compromised this evening,” the Post wrote to its subscribers. “We are working to resolve the issue. Please accept our apologies.”
While some believed the “compromised” story…

Not everybody bought The Post’s explanation. “Compromised. Yeah ok …wink-wink” wrote one user.
