It’s been 13 years since “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” wooed audiences, but the wait for the sequel is almost over.
“Ahhh, just wrapped #MyBigFatGreekWedding2, thank you splendid cast & crew,” the actress posted along with a photo of herself on set.
Vardalos’ announcement came a day after she shared a selfie with shirtless costar John Corbett.
“Is someone trying to get baptized again in #MyBigFatGreekWedding2?” she teased via Instagram Friday as the two smiled and Corbett showed off his fit physique. Last month the actress posted a shot of the crew call sheet saying May 10 was the start of a 33 day shoot.
Vardalos and the “Sex and the City” and “Parenthood” alum reprise their roles as Toula Portokalos and Ian Miller in the sequel to her 2002 romantic comedy that grossed $368.7 million worldwide, making it one of the top independent films of all time.
The actress received an Oscar nomination for writing the original film, in which she played a woman going through a mid-life crisis. Unmarried, she discovers a handsome schoolteacher who gives her hope. She gets a new job, a makeover and eventually a new boyfriend (the teacher). Her family does not approve at first because he is not ethnically Greek, but the two continue to date. The movie ends with the couple’s blissful wedding.
“My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” is slated to arrive in theaters on March 25, 2016.
