Nicole Clemens Exits FX for Anonymous; Gina Balian, Jonathan Frank Expand Roles

EVPs were all promoted together last year

FX’s executive vice president of drama and comedy development is taking on a new challenge: Nicole Clemens is heading to Anonymous Content, where she’ll be manager and producer.

To fill her big shoes, fellow FX EVPs Gina Balian and Jonathan Frank will expand their own roles. Balian will now oversee all series development, regardless of genre. Balian, who previously only ran the limited series side, will work with producers and writers under deals at FX Productions (FXP) to develop series for FX Networks (FXN) and other Fox Networks Group (FNG) outlets.

Frank will add FX Productions oversight to his business cards. He’ll now be responsible for development, management and distribution of FXP original series produced for non-FNG outlets. Frank previously led FXN current programming, something that will remain within his portfolio.

“Gina Balian is one of the smartest and most talented development executives in the industry,” said Eric Schrier, co-president of original programming at FXN and FXP. “Her track record of success speaks for itself, which is a direct reflection of the trust and respect producers and writers have for her. We are truly looking forward to Gina having oversight of all original series development for FX Networks and FXP.”

“For almost a decade, Jonathan Frank has played a vital role in the success of FX Networks, doing an extraordinary job of the day-to-day management and oversight of our current series,” fellow Co-President Nick Grad added. “It is only fitting that he will now expand his role to include the management and distribution of FXP original series produced for non-FNG outlets, as he so ably has done with the acclaimed FXP comedy series ‘One Mississippi’ for Amazon. We expect growth in the output of FXP-produced series for other platforms and Jonathan is the right person to shepherd those properties.”

Balian developed “Fargo”, “American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson” and the upcoming Marvel show “Legion.” Frank has been the day-to-day guy on “The Americans,” “AHS” and “Atlanta,” among others.

As for Clemens, she’ll now focus on talent management, film and TV production for Anonymous.

In a joint statement, the partners there said the following: “As a partner at ICM, Nicole was an extraordinary representative, and she followed that career to become a highly regarded production executive at one of the most dynamic and innovative networks on TV. The breadth and depth of Nicole’s career make her uniquely suited to thrive at Anonymous Content, and we’re thrilled to welcome such tremendous talent to our team.”

“Working with John Landgraf and the FX team has been an incredible professional experience, and I am proud to have been a part of such groundbreaking programming,” added Clemens. “By combining representation with hands-on producing, I’m excited to work with the team at Anonymous Content to continue to push boundaries in film and TV.”
