Obama Postpones West Coast Visit to Focus on Syria

The president’s California plans included a speech to the AFL-CIO and a Democratic National Committee fundraiser to be hosted by “Friends” co-creator Marta Kauffman

President Obama is postponing plans for a West Coast swing that included a Hollywood Democratic fundraiser as he moves forward with a push for action against Syria.

The White House in a one-line message Thursday said that the president will remain in Washington next week upon his return from the G-20 summit in St. Petersburg, rather than heading west.

Obama’s California plans included a speech to the AFL-CIO and a Democratic National Committee fundraiser to be hosted by Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman.

The Democratic National Committee declined to say when the fundraiser would be rescheduled.

The fundraiser would have been Obama’s third this year put on by Hollywood.

In June, Peter Chernin hosted a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee that featured Obama in Santa Monica. In May Harvey Weinstein hosted a New York fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee.
