Donald Trump declared victory in the war on Christmas Wednesday to a cheering crowd in St. Louis, Missouri. “I told you that we would be saying merry Christmas again, right,” said Trump. “With Trump as your president we are going to be celebrating merry Christmas again.”
But on the same, day MSNBC anchor Chris Hayes decided to do a little fact checking on his program “All In,” playing a quick sizzle reel of moments when President Obama has wished the country “merry Christmas” — and casting doubt on the whole premise of a war at all.
“Tis the season for more ridiculous lies about the prior president Barack Obama who apparently caved to political correctness and never uttered the words Merry Christmas — or did he?” said Hayes. “As we approach the end of the year, we got to thinking did Donald Trump really bring Merry Christmas back to the White House.”
If you don’t have time for the video — the answer is no.
It seems Obama was a fan of the holiday after all and the only “war on Christmas” is in the minds of Trump and certain ring wing television pundits.
