Reports that One Direction is splitting up have been circulating since the group announced a “break” at the end of August. Now one of the band’s members, Liam Payne, is assuring 1D fans that the group will find its way back together.

“I realize now this is the time to start branching out and exploring,” Payne told Attitude magazine, for which he appears on the cover this month. “This won’t last forever, and there will be a point when we will break off and do our own things, but … we will work together again.”

In fact, he had never thought about going solo, instead preferring to remain “behind the scenes.”

“If the right song comes along and I think I should sing it, then I will release it as a solo artist,” he said. “Otherwise, I’m happy being behind the scenes. When the others boys [in the group] go solo, I would love to write songs for them. I want to make great music that people want to listen to.”

At the end of August, One Direction announced it was taking a break after one of its members, Zayn Malik, left the group in March.

Following reports that 1D’s members are heading their separate ways, the foursome rushed to social media to reassure followers that they will be back … eventually.

Niall Horan confirmed that 1D is indeed taking a timeout, but asserted that the group isn’t “splitting up.”

Horan’s bandmate Louis Tomlinson added on his own account that the group is “not going anywhere.”

The October issue of Attitude magazine will hit newsstands on Sept. 16.
