Overseas Box Office: ‘Dark Shadows’ Draws $36.7M

"The Avengers' dominates but WB's "Dark Shadows" finds a niche and Universal's "American Reunion" marks a milestone

While "The Avengers" was wracking up $95.4 million overseas on its way to cracking the $1 billion worldwide box office gross mark, "Dark Shadows" was doing OK for itself in foreign territories.

Disney's star-studded Marvel superhero saga has now taken in $628.9 million overseas, with an overall global haul of $1.002 billion.

Warners' "Dark Shadows," which stars Johnny Depp and is directed by Tim Burton, took in $36.7 million from 43 countries. That outstripped its domestic take of $28.8 million.

Universal's "American Pie: Reunion" became the highest grossing film in the franchise internationally, grossing an estimated $15.6M in 49 territories for an international total of $144.5M. It passed "American Pie 2," which managed $143 million. Combined with its  domestic estimated gross of $56.1 million, "American Reunion" will finish the weekend with a worldwide box office total of $200.6 million.

The same studio's "Battleship," which opens next weekend in the U.S., grossed an estimated $11.2 million from 62 territories this weekend and raised its foreign gross to $215.3 million.
