OWN Brings Tyler Perry’s and Oprah’s Winfrey’s Most Memorable Characters Together (Video)

The cable network is pulling out all the stops for its first scripted series

In case you haven't heard that Tyler Perry‘s two new scripted series are coming to OWN, Perry and Oprah Winfrey dusted off their most famous characters to make sure that you do.

The two stars dress as their most memorable onscreen characters — Perry as Madea and Winfrey as Sofia from “The Color Purple” – to promote the premiere of “The Have and the Have Nots” and “Love Thy Neighbor,” which premiere on May 28 and 29, respectively, on OWN.

Winfrey seems to be using this parody as an opportunity to sound off on the challenges of building a cable network.

“All my life I’ve had to fight,” Winfrey says to a confused looking Perry in the promo shot in Atlanta. “I had to fight the press folks. I had to fight the ratings. I had to fight them haters. Girl, child, it ain’t safe in the world for a cable channel.”

You had it that tough, Oprah? Really.

OWN is really rolling out the red carpet for its first scripted series. Leading up to their debuts, Perry will appear on “Oprah’s Next Chapter” on Sunday, May 26 at 9 p.m. followed a behind-the-scenes peek at the new series at 10 p.m.
